Action, Inc.
Action, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization and human service agency covering the Greater Cape Ann area. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for low-income individuals and families by minimizing the effects of poverty, promoting economic security, and advocating for social change.
Action has been a local leader in the nationwide fight against poverty since 1965 and has extensive experience creating programs to meet the needs of low-income residents in our service area. We have built a sustainable and coordinated system of services for Greater Cape Ann’s families in need, through our Benefits and Support Services, COMPASS Youth Program, Energy Services, HomeCare, Housing Assistance, Job Training and Education, and Shelter Services divisions.
Action achieves its mission through a wide range of programs and services, including access to public benefits such as MassHealth and Food Stamps; alternative high school, GED, and night school programs for at-risk youth; in-home care for elders and disabled adults; job training and adult education programs; housing advocacy; services for immigrants and non-native speakers; assistance with home heating and utility payments; home weatherization and energy conservation; and food, shelter, and supportive services such as substance abuse counseling for homeless individuals.
Action operates out of our main offices in Gloucester as well as satellite offices in Ipswich and Rockport. We also own and operate the Action Emergency Homeless Shelter, affordable housing units in downtown Gloucester, and the COMPASS alternative high school.
