My Brother's Table
My Brother's Table is the largest kitchen on the North Shore. Since 1982 the Table, open 365 days a year, has served over 2.4 million free meals to hungry people in Lynn a city where 53 percent of the population is low income according to HUD standards . In Lynn one in five people lives below the poverty line--including a disproportionate number of elderly people and children. The Table is fueled by 2,500 volunteers and supported by private donations, foundations and corporate grants. Last year the Table served just under 90,000 meals to people of diverse backgrounds from men and women with disabilities to homeless veterans to working families struggling to make ends meet,. My Brother's Table delivers free meals to homebound people referred by health care professionals and serves a monthly meal to at-risk seniors. Each Tuesday there is a free Health Clinic at the Table, staffed by volunteer doctors and nurses. A volunteer art therapist works with guests --both young and old one night a week. The Table asks volunteers and staff to treat guests with dignity and serve them within the context of their needs. The Table works with the Lynn Hunger Network to collect turkeys for Thanksgiving.
