Bread And Roses Inc

The mission of Bread & Roses is to reach the poorest and neediest members of the community:  individuals and families who are hungry, suffering from chronic diseases, victims of fire, mental illness and abuse, the unemployed, isolated and those lacking sufficient funds to meet basic necessities.  Bread & Roses has been providing meals, clothing, hygiene products, childcare supplies, and medical needs to the community for the past 30 years.  Our goal is to provide a safe and friendly environment for our guests.  The meals are served to our guests who are seated at pleasantly decorated tables.  This gives our guests the time to engage in conversations with each other and well as our volunteers. We strive to treat all our guests with compassion, respect and dignity regardless of their circumstances. We see the importance of supporting the individual dignity of each of our guests in order to give them a feeling of worth and hope.  We serve between 130-175 meals a night, five nights per week, year round. 

The neediest of the city’s population come here to be nourished in body and spirit with food and hospitality.  They come here not only for the food but as an escape from the pressures that exists in their daily lives.  Bread and Roses has become a vital part of the City of Lawrence and its community, without some of our guests would not survive.
