SeniorCare provides meals to seniors in the area through two programs: Meals on Wheels and various Community Dining Rooms.

Community Dining Rooms:

Individuals age 60 or older and their spouses are welcome to enjoy lunch at one of the community dining rooms, conveniently located in area senior centers, elder housing, and other community spaces. 

To ensure a meal will be available, reservations should be made no later than 10:00 a.m. the day before you wish to eat. Questions? Contact the SeniorCare Nutrition Office at 978-281-1750 Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Meals on Wheels:

An elder 60 years of age, or older,
or the spouse* of an eligible elder, who:

  •     Is unable to prepare a balanced meal because of physical, mental, or emotional limitations, or
  •     Does not have sufficient assistance from family, friends, or neighbors, to prepare a balanced meal, or
  •     Is unable to comfortably or safely participate in the Congregate Dining Program

Meals on Wheels are delivered daily between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. excluding holidays. 

There are no income eligibility requirements. A $2.00 per meal voluntary donation is requested.

Emerson Market

Bread, produce and pastry arranged in an open-market style every Friday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in The Open Door Dining Room. There are no restrictions to participation; anyone who is interested in saving money on surplus food is eligible. Clients can expect a wide variety of choice and some specialty items. Clients are asked to donate a dollar a bag towards the handling costs of transporting the food and running the program. People start lining up as early as noon. 80 to 100 bags are distributed weekly.

Who Can Participate in WIC?

Pregnant women, breastfeeding women, non-breastfeeding women, and children under 5. WIC is for all kinds of families: married and single parents, working or not working. If you are a father, mother, grandparent, foster parent or other legal guardian of a child under 5, you can apply for your child. To participate in WIC you must:

  •     Live in Massachusetts
  •     Have a nutritional need (WIC staff can help determine this)
  •     Meet WIC Income Guidelines

If you currently receive TAFDC, Food Stamps or Mass Health (Medicaid) you are automatically eligible for WIC. (Mass Health members with Family Assistance and Common Health coverage are NOT automatically income eligible.)

Family Table of the North Shore strives to promote healthy eating and collaborates closely with JF&CS Nutrition Services. The program distributes food once a month. The Food Pantry is open to all Saugus residents who are in need every Friday from 9:30 am to 11:00 am

Residents may receive food twice a month. ID required

People who wish to register with the Pantry in order to receive food must bring with them the following:

  • A photo ID
  •  A utility bill dated within the past month, with your name & address on it
  •  Documents showing the State or Federal aid/assistance you are receiving.
  • If you are receiving food for children under the age of 18, you will need to bring in a copy of their birth certificate or passport, and proof of legal residence
